MISSION
STATEMENT
ICAC is the internationally
recognized body for the
accountancy profession in the
Caribbean, with an expanding
influence in the region. It
regulates the profession and
promotes the highest standards
of professional and ethical
conduct. Through thought
leadership and the provision of
research, CPD (Continuing
Professional development) and
other services, it adds value to
its members and the wider
community.
There are
currently five regional committees, which have
been established for the functional areas of
Education/ Examination, Joint Seminar,
Membership, Technical and Publicity.
Education/
Examination
To
facilitate and encourage the provision of
training and development opportunities in
the region in collaboration with accredited
Regional and International bodies.
To
promote the contribution of tertiary
institutions in the region towards the
development of the Accountancy profession.
To foster linkages with accredited
institutions such as the Association of
Chartered Certified Accountants and other
Accountancy examining bodies regarding the
development of the Accountancy examination
in the region.
Joint
Seminar
To
organize, in collaboration with territorial
institutes, seminars aimed at broadening the
continuing professional education of members
within the region.
Membership
To foster a
strong, cohesive and self regulated
profession.
To promote an institutional
framework for the participation by
individual accountants under the umbrella of
territorial institutes.
To ensure the
harmonization of entry requirements as well
as rules of professional conduct among
member Institutes.
To provide leadership
on emerging issues as they affect the
Accounting profession.
Technical
To ensure
the harmonization of Accounting and Auditing
standards within the region.
To encourage
the adoption of International Accounting
Standards (IAS) and International Standards
on Auditing (ISA) regionally.
To
facilitate the establishment of an Itinerant
Regional Monitoring System to support the
regulatory capacity of the profession within
the Caribbean region.
Publicity
To initiate
and organize activities toward promoting the
image of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of the Caribbean.
To develop
an acceptable means of exchanging
information among territories via the
Institute's Secretariat.
To promote the
profession's role, responsibility and
achievements in advancing the interest of
member Institutes through various
communication media.
To advise the
President on public statements that ought to
be made on matters affecting the profession
in the Caribbean, in collaboration with the
Board of Directors and other committees.
Co-ordinating
Institutes
At a Special
Board of Directors Meeting held on June 17,
2004 the President suggested that due to the
greater need for seminars in the Eastern
Caribbean Island one such territory should
chair the Joint Seminar Committee. Antigua
and Barbuda accepted the challenge.
Additionally, Education and Examination
changed from Barbados to Trinidad &
Tobago. Committee responsibilities are as

It was agreed
that the Countries responsible for the
Committees should:
Invite
participation from their members in their
respective committee. · Advise ICAC of the
names of both the chairperson and the
Committee members. · Submit quarterly
reports.
