Senator Phillip Galanis, MBA, CPA, CA, JP
President
Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean

MrMr. Phillip Galanis assumed the position as President of the ICAC in 1995. At that time, he held the positions of Managing Partner, Ernst and Young and Senator in the Bahamas Parliament. As President of the ICAC, he sought to consolidate efforts towards the establishment of a regional accountancy qualification, as he firmly believed that the Institute should offer its own examination scheme.

A past president of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) from 1988 until 1992, Senator Galanis has been actively involved in Bahamian politics since September 1992, when he was appointed to the Senate of The Bahamas by the late Sir Lynden O. Pindling.

He held this position until February 1997 and in March 1997 was elected to Parliament. He served as a Member of Parliament until 2002 and in May 2002, he was again appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Perry G. Christie.

He is a former lecturer in Accounting at the College of St. Benedict (Nassau Campus) and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of several organizations, including St. Augustine's College Board (1990-1992), the Financial Advisory Services Board, The Bahamas Electricity Corporation Board (1991-1992) and Global Life Insurance Company Ltd.
